How to choose an UHF RFID tag?
2017-11-12 View:
Like the RFID reader, the UHF tag is a fundamental element in an RFID solution. OPP IOT Technology proposes a wide range of UHF tags to meet all your identification and traceability requirements. They all have specific characteristics, because each project is unique, and the tag choice will have direct consequences on the reliability of the process. We give you the key criteria to take into account when selecting your UHF RFID tag.
1.What are the environmental constraints?
In addition to knowing whether the products will be outdoors or indoors, and therefore subject to weathering, the industrial environment sometimes imposes extreme conditions. For example, we propose very high temperature tags, for metal or other applications. For the autoclave process, there are specific tags that are resistant to pressure, chemicals, steam, and very high temperatures. And so on depending on the environmental constraints.
2.Product lifetime
Consider pallets which must be identified. If they are intended to be disposed of after a single use, a glued RFID tag will be enough, but if they are reusable, it will require a rugged tag, because the pallets are rough handling, stored outdoors very often; the tag must be very resistant. For metal objects, such as drums or pipes, there are also magnetic tags and flexible neck straps which are repositionable.
3.Nature of product
First of all, what is the material of the product you want to identify?
Material of the product will determine the shape, the flexibility, the material of the tag. Metal objects require extra attention because the metal disturbs the radio waves: special metal tags which have an insulating layer are therefore necessary. For clothing, for example, we offer textile labels, which can be fixed by sewing, and will resist washing.
Are there size constraints?
You can find many tags of small size, available with various fixing and packaging types, for traceability of small tools for instance. Some of them can be resistant to high temperatures too.
What is its form?
The tag shape depends partially on the product shape. For example, we propose an RFID tag for pipes, flexible labels for curved objects, etc.
4.What would be the reading distance?
The desired reading distance will determine the frequency selection: for a long distance (up to 10 meters / 394 inches), the UHF is necessary.if you need a long reading distance, the antenna in the tag must be large and the RFID reader’s power will affect the reading distance. If you want to identify all the products in a warehouse during an inventory, the reading distance must be long. But if you need to identify precisely one by one each products on a production line, short-range tags and reader would be more appropriate.
It is interesting to note that the water reduces significantly the passage of the waves: the reading distance will therefore be very short.
5.Choose the fixing method
The fixing method will depend on the product, its lifetime and the environment. There are RFID neck straps with secure attachments, labels that stick, embedded tags in the product by molding, etc.
6.What should be the size of the tag memory?
Again, it all depends on the RFID use. Sometimes it is only necessary to identify a product by its unique identification number that will be recognized by the database. But sometimes the memory of the chip must be bigger, and include other information. For instance, this is necessary for isolated areas, operators who do not have access to the database, can consult and update data contained by the tag.
OPP IOT Technologies CO., LTD design, manufacture and distribute a large number of high-performance models. But as the choice of a tag is not always easy, do not hesitate to contact us to guide you to the tag most suited to your application.
